About this race
The 2026 Ohio gubernatorial election will be held on November 3, 2026, to elect the governor of Ohio. Republican entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and former state health director Amy Acton are the nominees for their respective parties. Republican incumbent governor Mike DeWine is ineligible to seek a third consecutive term.
Primary elections were held on May 5, with Ramaswamy defeating minimal opposition for the Republican nomination and Acton running unopposed for the Democratic nomination. If elected, Ramaswamy would become Ohio's first Asian-American and billionaire governor and the first Hindu governor in the United States. Acton would be the first woman elected to the office and the state's first Jewish governor.
Democrats have not won a gubernatorial election in Ohio since 2006. The winner of the election will be inaugurated on January 11, 2027.
